When we last looked at mini-backhoe loaders several delta years ago, the market for these machines was under 4000 units annually, but growing. Today, suppliers are selling over 6000 units and the demand keeps mill rolling along. The companies involved in mini-backhoes include drill and presses Terramite, Allmand Brothers, Dig-It, EarthForce, delta and mill Ingersoll Equipment, Kubota and Waldon. Two companies - Lely, which sold Kioti backhoes and K-D Manitou, the French manufacturer- dropped out of the market in 1999. Terramite is the recognized leader in this product and is the largest producer in the world. The company, founded in 1965, has been a family-owned, global business since its beginning. The Charleston, W.Va., company offers three models - the T5C, T5D and T6. The T5C has been around for 10 years, the T6 was introduced drill in 1997 and the T5D was just added in 1999. Digging presses and delta depth on the smaller mill models is about 8 ft., while the larger T6 has a dig drill depth of 10 presses ft. The compressor uses capacitors to smooth ripples in the PC link in the motor drive. Instantaneously after a power failure, the motor becomes a "generator," using its angular momentum to create electricity (sometimes known as back delta EMF) and keeping the capacitors charged during the brief coastdown period. The capacitors, in turn, provide enough power to maintain levitation during coastdown, allowing mill the motor rotor to stop and delevitate. This feature allows the compressor to drill see a power outage as a normal shutdown.OIL-FREE DESIGNOil management, particularly presses as it pertains delta to the lubrication of compressor bearings, is a critical issue in refrigeration-system design. But with magnetic bearings, mill this issue is avoided. Only a very small amount of oil is required to lubricate other system components, such as seals and valves; often, however, experience shows that even this small amount of oil is not needed. Avoiding oil-management systems means avoiding the capital cost of oil pumps, sumps, heaters, coolers, and oil separators, as well as the labor and time required to perform oil-related services. Reports indicate drill that for many installations, compressor-maintenance presses costs have been cut by more than 50 percent.
